Electronics Focus: GPower in a new setup [Article]

When we attended the HI Technology and Industry Fair in Herning, we met with Rolf Sylvester-Hvid from Electronics Focus. Read below what he wrote about us.

Global expansion plans for Danish GPower

With four or five open positions, the Hinnerup-based company GPower is in a fast-track growth phase. At present, GPower employs eight people, but with the upcoming hiring of more designers and developers within the company’s core competencies, the goal is to grow from its original start-up status to become a market leader in its field—with a focus on the opportunities available in the global market.

In this connection, the company’s founder, Steen Schmidt, has made the smart move of shifting himself into a role as Technical Director—or CTO—and handing the more commercial helm to Martin Boje, who as CEO is responsible for continuing to build the company. Steen Schmidt needed a partner, and with Martin Boje’s background in sales and the development of iPaper, and as Managing Director of Den Blå Avis, the “classic” partnership between finance and technology has been created—a formula for success for many technically founded companies for many years.

The starting point for GPower’s solutions has been—and will continue to be—relatively specialised solutions for test and measurement, simulation, instrumentation and visualisation aimed at the green energy supply. Based on the truly customer-specific solutions, GPower would like to establish a number of measurement-technology platforms that enable more standardised products. These are still early thoughts, however, but everything indicates that the very high level of knowledge we have in Denmark about wind energy and measurement-based optimisation of efficiency can readily be transferred to global markets.

“We are in the process of establishing a marketing strategy that will bring us into dialogue with a number of exciting people within project sales. Through a kind of ‘in-house continuing education’, we will build knowledge among the company’s senior consultants, who will be trained for the individual tasks. It is a major undertaking, as we are of course working on tasks linked to current sales. However, we hope to free up Steen Schmidt’s resources so that he can shift his focus entirely to technological development,” explains Martin Boje.
