Growth at the Hinnerup-based company, which in nine months has grown from 4 to 11 employees
Sometimes you get more than two by adding one and one together. That seems to be the case at the software company GPower, located at Samsøvej 31 in Hinnerup.
After the company’s founder, Steen Secher Schmidt, brought in a new partner last August, the number of employees has grown to 11, and the expectation is that within about a year the company will have doubled that number.
The expectation is that physicists, engineers, and project managers will be needed.
“We expect to have doubled the number of employees in one year”, explains CEO Martin Boje.
When will the growth stop?
“I find it hard to see it stopping for us. In addition to our project sales, we also have a major future earnings opportunity in delivering more standardized products to customers”, says the CEO.
From large to all companies
Today, the customers are primarily the very large players such as Siemens and Vestas, for whom tailored solutions are developed. For example, Vestas needs a method to measure the load on wind turbines throughout the turbine’s lifetime, while Siemens would like a simulation solution.
Going forward, the plan is for the company to stand on more than one leg and target small and medium-sized enterprises.
“Put simply, the advanced programming for the large projects can be assembled into ‘packages’ or standard modules, after which already tested ‘packages’/modules can be incorporated into a solution for a smaller company”, explains Martin Boje, who has 14 years of management experience from, among others, iPaper and Den Blå Avis.
CEO joined
Martin Boje handles the administrative tasks and steers the strategic decisions, while Steen Secher Schmidt now has time for product development of software and hardware for industrial companies within simulation and test. In the industry, he is known as one of the most skilled programmers at handling the software for the tools produced by the dominant market leader, National Instruments.
In fact, the company visited the headquarters in Austin, Texas last month, where a strategic collaboration agreement was discussed.
Founded in 2012
So it is quite a growth journey GPower has been on since Steen Secher Schmidt founded GPower in 2012. Back then, common practice was to sell as many consulting hours as possible instead of ensuring customers quality solutions at a good price. Steen turned his ambition into reality by developing modular base software with the ability to reuse and adapt software elements from previous projects—something that would prove to be a revolution in the industry.
The idea was that instead of starting a project from scratch every time, it can in reality be up to 80% complete at the start of design, making it possible for small and medium-sized companies to afford quality instruments.
