Two State-of-the-art IO-Link Products in the Same Office Building

Two State-of-the-art IO-Link Products in the Same Office Building!

In most cases, you go online to find information about new products and interesting theories. A Google search or skimming a newsletter, and we're fast forward. But as we also know, it’s sometimes the informal conversations that can result in knowledge sharing and sales. This scenario is exactly the case in this story where it has turned out that there are two world news about IO-Link in the same house.

Two IO-Link World News in the Same Office Building

At GPower, we are part of a larger office community at Point Nordic in Hinnerup near Aarhus. This is also the case for Wika resulting in great news within IO-Link.

While Wika is behind the world’s first IO-Link pressure sensor with 360° LED status display (Wika A-1200 IO-Link 1.1), GPower has the world’s first IO-Link Toolkit for LabVIEW and TestStand.

How Is It Revolutionary?

The revolutionary element about Wika’s product is that it’s the first IO-Link pressure sensor with a 360° LED status display (see picture). A product that enables operators and repairers to quickly see if everything is OK or if problems need to be solved.

If a green signal is displayed, everything is OK. When a yellow signal is displayed, a critical condition has occurred, and when a red signal is displayed, a definite error is the case. You can use an IO-Link command to make the status LED flash, so you can easily find the device you want to work with in a setup with many devices.

The revolutionary thing about GPower IO-Link, on the other hand, is that the product enables you to easily and quickly connect your IO-Link devices to NI’s tool chain. By simply installing a toolkit, GPower IO-Link provides access to data from more than 30,000 devices in the LabVIEW code. In addition, we have taken our own medicine by using our IO-Link LabVIEW Toolkit to build IO-Link step types for TestStand.

“During the development of GPower IO-Link, we went to great lengths to obtain various IO-Link compatible devices to test our product. It was only after the release of the first version that we accidentally discovered that Wika, who is housed in the same building as us, has IO-Link units in their portfolio. I hope that we can help each other finding areas of application for our products in the future,” says senior specialist at GPower, Jens Christian Ø. Andersen.

Mekan and GPower Enter into a Strategic Collaboration

Mekan and GPower Enter into a Strategic Collaboration

In order to be able to deliver 360° solutions, it is absolutely crucial as a software company to enter into strategic collaboration agreements with various hardware companies. In addition to a long-standing collaboration with NI (National Instruments), we are proud to present our new partner Mekan. Mekan offers mechanical solutions for test, development, and production in the electronics industry.

From Consulting to 360° Solutions

In recent years, we have gone from focusing on consulting tasks to being a 360° partner. So, from being responsible for “only” the software solution, we are now in charge of the entire project in almost all cases. A change that make strategic collaboration agreements with various hardware suppliers absolutely necessary.

We are therefore proud to present this agreement with Mekan. Mekan will be included as hardware experts in relation to mechanical solutions for test, development, and production for the electronics industry.

Mekan in Short

Besides offering mechanical solutions for test, development, and production in the electronics industry, Mekan is well known for:

    • Designing product-specific test fixtures from low to high complexity and production volume
    • Designing product-specific tools and assembly and holding fixtures
    • Developing and manufacturing prototypes and special solutions

Morten Balzer

New Key Account Manager at GPower

While we are experiencing an increasing demand of our services, we have chosen to focus on our customers. A focus resulting in an organizational change in our sales department where Morten Baltzer is now at the helm as GPower's Key Account Manager.

Increased Focus on Key Account Management

Since Morten’s employment, the plan for him has been to combine software development and sales. However, because of significantly increased sales activity, we have already made an organizational change which means that Morten will primarily be focusing on sales management as GPower’s new Key Account Manager. As Key Account Manager, Morten will, among other things, take care of key accounts, define sales strategies, and build long-term relationships.

Morten Baltzer is a trained mechanical engineer with many years of experience as a certified test engineer. Moreover, Morten has worked at NI (National Instruments) acquiring a great deal of knowledge about NI’s software and hardware products on which we build our business on, among others.

Simon Sejer Pedersen

Welcome to GPower, Simon!

At GPower, we welcome Simon Sejer Pedersen who has become part of our development team from today. Despite his young age and academic degree from Aarhus University, Simon has already been on stage at NIWeek in Austin, Texas, where we met him first time.

Simon is a newly graduated with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Aarhus University. As a part of his studies, Simon has a specialization in business understanding and has, among other things, worked with design, testing, and analysis of new methodologies for vacuum drying and vibrations in wind turbine towers. Furthermore, Simon has i.e., worked with test and measurement equipment setup, quality assurance, and data analysis which is consistent with GPower’s core competences.

In addition to study experience, Simon also has experience with test and measurement systems from his internship at Siemens Gamesa. Here, he has worked with thermodynamic and mechanical systems among others. In previous projects, Simon has, moreover, dealt with everything from initial design of test set-up and preparation of software to data analysis and collection before, during, and after a project.

Simon is a former Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD) and well on his way to becoming a Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD).

Reunion Joy from NIWeek 2019

However, it is not the first time we have encountered Simon. We met him i.e., at NIWeek 2019 in Austin where he and a group of fellow students presented an autonomous robot for Arctic use. A project – and a presentation – resulting in a 2nd place, while they won the audience award at the same event. In addition, the project also won the SDG Sustainary’s Best Research Category at the SDG Tech Awards 2019.

Why GPower?

“I wanted to be part of GPower because it’s exciting working with test and measurement technologies. I see GPower as a smaller specialist team focusing on knowledge sharing and interdisciplinarity. This means, among other things, that I can become wiser based on internal knowhow and many years of LabVIEW and TestStand experience. Furthermore, it suits me well being part of a company with exciting customers and different projects to satisfy a wide range of personal interests. I look forward to getting started on projects contributing to automation, increased quality, and greater benefit of test results for our stakeholders” – Simon Sejer Pedersen.
