2019: Positive changes all around [Year in Review]

Would you like to hear more about what has happened at GPower during 2019 and what the plans are for the coming year? In this blog post, our CEO reflects on the year that has passed and also offers a small preview of 2020.

A summary of 2019

2019 was the year in which major—but positive—changes took place. Changes relating to everything from further development of our own products to adjustments to the organisational structure. Changes that occurred as a result of growth in the number of employees, where we—despite it being an establishment year—grew by 33%. In addition to enabling us to bring more projects into the pipeline, this growth has also resulted in a larger and much broader customer portfolio. These are all factors that will be decisive for us next year, when we expect the workforce to increase by up to double.

As for the development of our own products, we have made good progress on what we said in 2018. For example, we are now ready to launch our finished test concept, ProFactory, an enterprise product that we will present right at the beginning of the new year. In addition, we continuously release new packages of our in-house developed software, where reusability, quality, and efficiency are among the key words.

More employees, projects, and customers have also resulted in a new organisational structure, which took effect shortly before the summer holidays. The new organisational structure has meant that we now have two Tech Leads in the development department: Jens Christian Andersen and Mads Grunnet Askholt. Jens Christian and Mads both help support our CTO, Steen Secher Schmidt, in day-to-day operations, and they also have a leading role in development projects and the further development of our software packages. In addition to changes in the development department, changes have also taken place in the sales department, where Poul Lindholm Pedersen has become Tech Sales. In close collaboration with Steen, Poul has intensified the focus on further developing our concepts, strategic collaboration agreements, and partnerships, which we expect to benefit from in the longer term.

In addition, we have scaled up our LabVIEW and TestStand certifications, with all developers moving up 1–2 levels over the course of the year. Besides helping to create a shared set of competencies, these certifications have also resulted in an environment with extensive knowledge sharing. Likewise, the certifications have contributed to us now being the company in Denmark with the highest level of certification in LabVIEW and TestStand. All of this also supports that we are one of the development houses in Scandinavia working on some of the most cutting-edge test and measurement projects—something I am incredibly proud to be part of.

What are the expectations for 2020?

In addition to already knowing that we will be adding another experienced developer to the team at the beginning of the new year, we also expect to introduce two more new employees during Q1. Furthermore, as mentioned, we will be launching more of our concepts, and we will also continue the entire journey from 2019 into 2020.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to say a big thank you to our long-standing partner, National Instruments, who once again this year has proven that they are exactly the right partner for us—now and in the future. This is due, among other things, to their uncompromising approach to ensuring the very highest quality. In addition, they are forward-looking in terms of their product portfolio, which aligns with our philosophy.

At the same time, a big thank you also goes to all our customers and partners for a good and fruitful collaboration in 2019. I would also like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Internally at GPower, we are now looking forward to celebrating 2019 and welcoming 2020, which we will do with a ski trip to Tignes, France, in week 2. So if we are not as quick to respond at the beginning of January, you will know why 😉 🍻.

See you in 2020!

Martin Boje, CEO at GPower.
